Connecticut Cannabis License Application Details Released

Connecticut Cannabis License Application Details Released

Connecticut is preparing to open its adult-use cannabis market, with sales anticipated to start by the end of 2022. There are a restricted amount of licenses available, and the deadlines for applications are fast approaching! We’ll go through the basics of license types, requirements, and deadlines below.

CANNABIS LICENSE TYPES & DEADLINES

Connecticut is unique in that it has nine distinct types of cannabis business licenses: cultivation, retail, micro-cultivation, delivery, hybrid retail, food and beverage manufacturing, product manufacturing, packaging, and transportation. Except for cultivation and retail, each license type has its own distinct start date, and they are only available for 90 days. The date the 90-day window opens for each license type is shown in the table below.

  • Cultivation in disproportionately impacted areas: Feb. 3rd (nonlottery)
  • Retail (dispensaries): Feb. 3rd, 12 licenses available
  • Micro-cultivation: Feb. 10th, 4 licenses available
  • Delivery service: Feb. 17th, 10 licenses available
  • Hybrid retail: Feb. 24th (can sell to medical marijuana patients and adult-use customers), 4 licenses available
  • Food and beverage manufacture: March 3rd, 10 licenses available
  • Product manufacture: March 10th, 6 licenses available
  • Packaging: March 17th, 6 licenses available
  • Transportation: March 24th, 4 licenses available

Cannabis Business License Availability in Connecticut

There are a limited number of licenses available in each license category. 50% of each category’s accessible licenses must be given to social equity apps. You must satisfy income and residency criteria as well as have at least 65% ownership to qualify as a social equity applicant. This is only a beginning cap and not a complete one, according to the Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner. A second application round may occur at a later date.

Connecticut is a smaller state with a limited number of licenses, yet it is still a competitive market owing to the restricted license supply. The application periods are rapidly approaching, and they will only be open for a brief period of time!
